What Is Drawing in PET Strapping Production?
Drawing stretches the strap precursor under controlled conditions. The actual speed ratio, temperature, tension and slip affect the extension experienced by the material. Setpoints alone do not prove the effective draw history. Check the process arrangement and finished results as part of the manufacturing process rather than treating one roll-speed ratio as a product specification.
What Is Molecular Orientation?
Orientation describes how polymer chains become more aligned along the strap length. The idea resembles long threads being brought into a more common direction, though real PET behavior also involves molecular condition, structure and defects. Alignment contributes to longitudinal response; it does not create equal behavior in every direction or eliminate the need for dimensional and mechanical testing.
How Drawing Can Affect Breaking Force
Orientation is one factor in longitudinal strength. Breaking force also depends on polymer condition, effective load-bearing section, defects and test method. A grade with a different width or thickness cannot be judged from orientation alone. Tensile strength is normalized by area, while breaking force is a specimen force. Neither is automatically joint strength or a safe package-load rating.
How Drawing Can Affect Elongation
Drawing history can influence the strap’s extension behavior, but the relevant response must be measured. Distinguish elongation at break, elongation under working force and recovery after unloading. A larger breaking-extension percentage is not automatically better. Compare the proposed grade under defined conditions and connect it with the load’s rebound, movement and required restraint.
Why More Orientation Is Not Automatically Better
Longitudinal performance is only part of the task. A strap must also tolerate the relevant contact, bending and joining conditions. Splitting can involve orientation, local notches, contamination, degradation or tool damage; appearance alone does not identify the cause. Define the failure and test conditions before proposing more drawing as a universal fix.
Drawing and Dimensional Consistency
Actual draw ratio, temperature, slip and haul-off stability can influence cross-section. They do not independently fix width and thickness: forming, cooling and surface geometry also contribute. Review finished dimensions and g/m by the agreed sampling basis. Equal average g/m does not establish local uniformity. Use the size and specification directory to record the complete requirement.
What Buyers Should Check
Request breaking force, elongation, dimensions, g/m, test conditions and the relevant batch or lane records. Then consider the heat-setting stage and final application. For compressed cotton and fiber bales, working response and retained restraint matter alongside specimen force. Machine-grade strapping also requires feeding and joint validation on the actual equipment.
FAQs
Does drawing alone determine breaking force?
No. Orientation contributes, but polymer condition, effective section, defects and the test method also affect the specimen result.
Is greater elongation always better?
No. Elongation at break, working elongation and recovery answer different questions. The required behavior depends on the load and operating conditions.
Can g/m prove that drawing was uniform?
No. g/m is an average material-quantity measure. It does not independently establish local width/thickness distribution or polymer condition.
Does splitting prove excessive drawing?
No. Orientation may be one factor, but notches, tool damage, contamination and degradation also need investigation.
What follows drawing?
The full arrangement depends on the line. Stabilization, surface formation, cooling and winding must be considered with finished results and application validation.
